GARDENS, GATES, AND GRATES IN HISTORIC CHARLESTON

Charleston, South Carolina celebrated its special gardens, houses and history during Historic Charleston Foundation’s month-long annual Spring Festival of Houses & Gardens.

“Experience the intimate charm and elegance found only beyond Charleston’s private garden gates and historic thresholds during Historic Charleston Foundation’s month-long annual Spring Festival of Houses & Gardens.”

No photography is allowed on these private home and garden tours, but I managed to photograph many gardens, gates and grates from the public streets.

Had to revisit Bowens Island Restaurant to eat fried shrimp, locally harvested oysters and hushpuppies.

One must wait in line to order, but with friends like ours you can at least get a drink while you wait.

Locally harvested oysters were in season… and served by the trayful.

Speaking of shrimp, meet me at The Amelia Island Shrimp Festival this weekend.  Thousands of visitors and Amelia residents will enjoy shrimp prepared every way you can imagine.  Stroll down Centre Street to view over 300 fine arts and crafts booths.  Comb the side streets filled with antiques and collectibles.

Steve Leimberg will be showcasing his fine art nature photography at The Shrimp Festival.  Look for his booth to experience and purchase his fine art nature prints.  Or visit his website, www.UnSeenImages.com to view his thoughtful portrait and nature photography.  One of his newest, The Skypointer will be available at his booth on 7th and Centre Street.

Steve and I have collaborated on several projects and look forward to more.

Gotta go paint…and eat shrimp!

Come celebrate with me.  I’ll save you a seat at the table.

Sorry I missed seeing you at the Shrimp Festival (didn’t get up to 7th St.) Hope you and Steve had a good show! Loved your post about Charleston – made me feel like I was in that beautiful town touring with you.

Beautiful photographs, Kathy! I have always wanted to visit Charleston. Looks like fun.

    • It is a beautiful city. Every block has homes with flower boxes, gardens behind gorgeous gates and wonderful piazzas. I am amazed at what some homeowners are doing with the smaller homes. Making use of all available space. Thanks for your comment. I always love hearing from you.

Another great photo shoot from Charleston. I can hardly wait for June to get here so we can get down there and see these for ourselves. Was in Louisville for Ky. Derby Festival and races this past week, would make a great story for you to share.
