SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME…ALABAMA VS FLORIDA

If I was a betting girl, I might be thinking of a rematch for the title game between Alabama and Clemson.  Sure looks like odds are… both will win their conference championships.

But….you never know…

Therefore I will share two recipes.

I am thinking Bloody Marys to celebrate the SEC Championship.  In my Alabama tailgating painting, I included Bloody Marys in honor of the Red (Crimson Tide).

Avid Bama fan, Ken Yarbrough’s Bloody Mary recipe…a little twist with the red wine…

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Vodka (or 6 good splashes)
  • 36 ounces tomato juice
  • 2 shots cabernet wine
  • 24 dashes red hot sauce
  • 12 dashes worcestershire sauce
  • 12 pinches salt
  • 12 pinches pepper

Instructions

  1. Mix well. Taste test to make sure you have enough spice.
  2. Important! Let this mixture sit overnight to add body and texture.
  3. Serve with one stalk celery.

Notes

Ken says, "The recipe for this delectable game day libation is based on 12 servings, but I tend to get a bit liberal on some of the ingredients (life's too short to be perfect). ROLL TIDE!!"

In my Tailgating In The Swamp painting for Florida I painted the state fruit…Florida Oranges.

But Florida grows tomatoes too and one of the best Bloody Marys I ever tasted is served in a bar on the strip…The Salty Dog Saloon…

I have secured the recipe thanks to a sweet server.  She wrote the recipe down for me on a paper napkin.  You will have to experiment with amounts…She didn’t go that far!

Ingredients

  • 36 ounces V8 Juice
  • 12 ounces vodka
  • 12 dashes worcestershire sauce
  • 12 dashes (or more) Chuck’s hot sauce (sold at Wards Grocery and NW Seafood)
  • 2 teaspoons horseradish
  • 2 tablespoons olive juice (dirty)
  • 1 lemon, cut in wedges
  • 1 lime, cut in wedges
  • Salt to taste
  • Black Pepper to taste
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon oregano
  • pinch or more cayenne pepper
  • Olives as garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, mix V8 Juice, vodka, worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, horseradish, olive juice together.
  2. Squeeze the juice of the lemon and lime and add to mixture.
  3. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Add oregano.
  5. Add pinches of cayenne pepper to taste.
  6. Garnish with olives. Can also garnish with celery.

Notes

This recipe was given to me by Salty Dog Saloon in Gainesville, FL on a paper napkin with just the ingredients. No quantities were included. I experimented with the ratios. Adjust according to your spicy/hot preferences.
