PEONIES AND DAHLIAS AND THE HIGH HAMPTON INN

In a previous post Shakespeare and the rose shone.  If you missed Carol Ann’s roses, click here.

As much as I love roses, I am also partial to the peony and the dahlia…two blooms that are simply perfection.

The peony blooms in the spring and is a national flower emblem of China;  celebrating royalty, honor and wealth.  In Victorian England it was said to signify bashfulness.

I say there is nothing bashful about this peony from my friend Susan’s Charlotte, NC garden.

I could not find any mention of dahlias by Shakespeare.

The only thing missing from a dahlia is a scent….

These dahlias are from the famous dahlia beds at the High Hampton Inn,  in Cashiers, NC.   During the summer each table in the dining room is adorned with dahlias.

High Hampton is a great place for families…kid, dog and llama friendly.

Watch for upcoming stories from my summer travels.  We are heading to Vermont and Maine.

Looking forward to fresh corn and lobster, lobster, lobster.

Come celebrate with me.  I’ll save you a seat at the table.
